F1 teams should leave the FIA and FOM - Legault

The current way Formula One is operated is not good for the teams, and they could actually be better off on their own, says Normand Legault, promoter for the Canadian GP. If the teams were to abandon the FIA and the FOM, they would be able to run their own series and increase their individual revenues, instead of giving 50% to Formula One Management group, run by Bernie Ecclestone.

"The teams could leave tomorrow morning," Legault told Canadian newspaper 'La Presse', "They could call it the Grand Prix World Championship. If you have Ferrari, BMW, Williams, if you have Lewis Hamilton, that seems pretty much like the real thing."

Also talking about the revenue split between the teams and the FOM, "In F1, the guy who manages the business costs you 50 percent of your revenues."

This issue has long been on the teams' agendas, as they are frequently debating with the FOM as to whether there should be an increase in their share of the revenues, something Ecclestone is strongly against.
