The double world champion and home hero, Fernando Alonso, reflects on his first day of work in Valencia. The Renault F1 Team driver finished the Friday afternoon session on top of the time sheets, a good feeling for the Spaniard.

Fernando, how did free practice go for you today?

"It went pretty well and I have a good feeling for the rest of the weekend as I think that we can be competitive here. Also, I set the best time this afternoon, which confirmed that we are on the pace. What is encouraging is that I was quick not only at the end of the session but throughout the 90 minutes."

Can you aim for pole position tomorrow?

"As usual pole position will depend on how much fuel people choose to start the race with. Having said that, I think that we should reach Q3 quite easily and then, if we chose a good strategy, we can aim towards the front of the grid."

What did you think of Romain Grosjean's debut today?

"He settled in well and didn't make any mistakes. He also showed good speed and helped us get lots of data. Tomorrow, he will feel more comfortable in the car and he will get more competitive with each day."
