First day at Jerez

By on

Franck Montagny, Renault, was quickest at Jerez today. The Frenchman, driving a chassis fitted with a detuned V10 engine, was just 0.2s quicker than Marc Gene in a V8 powered Ferrari. Heikki Kovalainen, who is usurping Montagny as Renault’s reserve driver, was third quickest.

All eyes were on Narain Kathikeyan as he made his debut for the Williams F1 Team. The Indian brought out the red flags with an early spin, but made amends by eventually going fifth quickest and outpacing 2006 Williams race driver Nico Rosberg by 0.4s.
