New chassis for Scuderia Toro Rosso

By on

The junior team of Red Bull Racing,Scuderia Toro Rosso, has announced that they will design a new chassis for their car for the 2006 Formula One season instead of using the existing Minardi PS05 or Red Bull Racing RB1.

While the team commenced winter testing last week with an RB1 chassis and the rev-limited Cosworth V10, it is impossible that the team will use the same car for their first race campaign in 2006. As the FIA forbids teams to run another's active team chassis, Torro Rosso would either have to develop the Minardi PS05 or change the current RB1 testing chassis.

Since there does not seem to be a lot of time left for the team, probably their best option would be to develop the Minardi PS05 while having in mind the strong points of the RB1. Having the knowledge of 2 chassis from 2005 may prove to be an advantage. If so, they will need it to become competitive as the Minardi PS05 was not actually a front runner. It is also still unclear what engine will be used as the rev-limited V10 regulation was created for smaller teams that cannot afford a V8.

What exactly Scuderia Torro Rosso will come up with is something we can only wait for, but there is simply no other option than developing something they have considering the FIA regulations and the timespan that's left.
