German GP in danger?

By on

The German newspaper 'Bild' reported in its Christmas edition that Ernst and Young, the company that organizes the German Grand Prix, at the circuit of Hockenheim, is facing a financial disaster and could go bancrupt by April.

After the Belgian Grand Prix got in financial problems earlier this year and the Grand Prix at Monza is under threat, as a result of legal action over noise, the German GP is the third GP to get into problems.

In the glory days of, German driver and 7-times World Champion, Michael Schumacher the ticket sales were on a high, but now that the youngsters have taken the power, fans are unwilling to pay as much as €300 for their ticket. Of course, we can't forget Bernie Ecclestone's Formula One Management who demands more and more money.

Whether this will eventually result in the German GP to be scrapped from the calendar remains to be seen. It is however an indication that F1 spectator numbers highly depend on national successes and seemingly fewer and fewer die hard fans.
