Renault isn’t in a hurry - Abiteboul

Rumours around Renault have been swirling around Formula 1 since the start of the season. However the French manufacturer is giving itself more time to make the final decision over its future.

Renault were rumoured to remain committed to the duo of Red Bull and Toro Rosso, to sell the financially struggling Enstone-based Lotus squad and also to pull out of the sport altogether.

Renault's F1 chief Abiteboul targets a decision in September and insists that Renault will supply Red Bull and its sister team Toro Rosso in the coming year.

"We will honour our contract with Red Bull and Toro Rosso in 2016, as they are two fantastic and very demanding teams. Then we will evaluate the various options.”

Abiteboul said that Renault’s priority is to lift its performance of its V6 turbo power unit after the tough start which it has endured so far in 2015.

"We are working on a lot of things, including trying to make our engine more competitive. We want to make sure to take the best decision possible, reflecting a long term strategy."

Renault’s senior member also reassured Formula 1 that the French engine manufacturer still wants to stay and earn success in motor sport.
