Formula E driver Pascal Wehrlein has announced via a short post on social media on Monday that he would leave his Mahindra team with immediate effect.

The former Formula 1 driver has announced on his Instagram acccont that he would quit Mahindra FE outfit. “From today onwards I will no longer be part of Mahindra Racing. My interest was to finish the season but the current situation didn’t allow so.

“I can’t say much about my future but will keep you informed,” he said.

The 2019/2020 Formula E season has been put on hold following the Marrakesh E-Prix. While the championship is working on a revised calendar to complete its sixth season, the series founder Alejandro Agag has already indicated the latest that rounds of the current season can be hosted is the month of September.

The fully-electic series wants to commence its seventh season in December when its acquires a world championship status from the FIA. Wehrlein’s departure means that even if the season resumes, he will not be part of the Mahindra team in the possible remaining events.

The Mahindra team responded to Wehrlein’s announcement, refusing to confirm its line-up for the suspended 2019/2020 FE season.

"Mahindra Racing's current focus is on supporting the FIA and the FIA Formula E Championship to get the 2019/20 series back up and running when it is safe to do so. Our driver line-up for the 2020-21 season will be announced in due course."
