FP2: Alonso heads Russell in disrupted second practice

The rain continued to play a pivotal role in the second practice session in Montreal with Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso setting the benchmark in the challenging conditions.

Following the rain-disrupted opening session, the second practice was similarly challenging. Drivers lined up in the pit lane with a couple of minutes from the start of FP2, but as soon as they were allowed to enter the track, the rain started to fall.

Max Verstappen was forced to end his day early after a suspected ERS issue curtailed his running. With the issue around the hybrid system of his RB20 having looked quite serious, the three-time champion sat out the rest of the session with only for laps to his name.
