DRIVERS STANDINGS: Norris closes in on his team-mate Piastri

Lando Norris' second consecutive victory meant that the Briton closed in on his team-mate Oscar Piastri in the standings while Lewis Hamilton also managed to get closer to the third place in the drivers' standings.
McLaren drivers Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris started from P2 and P3 on the grid at Sunday's British Grand Prix. Starting in the wet, the Australian managed to extract more grip from his inters than race-leader Verstappen could and picked off the Dutchman for the lead.
The Melbourne-born driver managed to build up an enormous lead of over 13 seconds over Verstappen and Norris. However, a safety car period meant that the championship leader lost his comfortable lead.
At the second Safety Car restart, Piastri braked heavily, and Verstappen shot past him. The stewards rules that the Australian had not followed procedure and handed him a 10-second time penalty. Just moments after this incident, Verstappen had spun at the exit of Stowe and dropped back.
It left Piastri and Norris at the front of the field, and they managed to build a huge advantage over the field. When the papaya cars pitted for slick tyres, Norris emerged ahead after Piastri served his penalty. That left the Brit to enjoy the last few laps before crossing the line to win his home race for the first time.
His victory at the British Grand Prix helped Norris close in on his team-mate Oscar Piastri. The British driver is now only eight points adrift of his team-mate, having beaten the Australian at the last two rounds at Spielberg and Silverstone.
Max Verstappen is still clinging on to his third place in the standings, but he is already 69 points aways from the lead. Having delivered strong races in the early stages of the season, George Russell finds himself in fourth spot in the standings, but Ferrari drivers Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton have marching forward, having closed in on Verstappen in recent races.
Nico Hulkenberg recorded his maiden F1 podium at last Sunday's British Grand Prix. His podium finish saw the German driver move up to P9 on the order, and he has now a comfortable margin of 14 points from tenth-placed Haas rival Esteban Ocon.
Following a series of disappointing races in the early stages of the season, two-time F1 champion Fernando Alonso still finds himself behind his team-mate Lance Stroll, but he has now at least 16 points to his name.
The Spaniard first scored points at his home race at Barcelona, having finished ninth in Spain. He has collects points in every single race since there, having finished seventh in Canada and Austria before crossing the finish line in ninth spot in Great Britain.
Franco Colapinto and Jack Doohan, who was replaced by the Argentinean driver, are still pointless after the British Grand Prix.
