TEAMS' STANDINGS: McLaren escapes from its rivals, Ferrari strengthens its second place

Last Sunday's British Grand Prix saw McLaren increase its lead in the constructors' championship while Ferrari managed to strengthen its second place in the teams' standings despite failing to convert its impressive speed into a good result.
McLaren drivers Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris started from P2 and P3 on the grid at Sunday's British Grand Prix. Starting in the wet, the Australian managed to extract more grip from his inters than race-leader Verstappen could and picked off the Dutchman for the lead.
The Melbourne-born driver managed to build up an enormous lead of over 13 seconds over Verstappen and Norris. However, a safety car period meant that the championship leader lost his comfortable lead.
At the second Safety Car restart, Piastri braked heavily, and Verstappen shot past him. The stewards rules that the Australian had not followed procedure and handed him a 10-second time penalty. Just moments after this incident, Verstappen had spun at the exit of Stowe and dropped back.
It left Piastri and Norris at the front of the field, and they managed to build a huge advantage over the field. When the papaya cars pitted for slick tyres, Norris emerged ahead after Piastri served his penalty. That left the Brit to enjoy the last few laps before crossing the line to win his home race for the first time.
Thanks to their latest victory, McLaren now lead the teams' standings by 238 points from Ferrari. The Scuderia endured a tough start to the season, and suffered a double disqualification from the Chinese Grand Prix, but their recent improvements saw the Italian team jump to second place in the teams' standings.
Mercedes are now third, sitting on 210 points. Red Bull continue to occupy fourth place. Interestingly, the Milton Keynes-based team has collected a total of 172 points from which Max Verstappen recorded 166 points.
Williams find themselves in fifth place in the standings. The Grove-based outfit collected heavily in the run of four consecutive races in Jeddah, Miami, Imola and Monaco, but it has struggled to add points to its tally since.
Nico Hulkenberg's sensation maiden F1 podium at Silverstone saw Sauber move up the order to P6. The Swiss outfit has now 41 points to its name which is a great achievement given the last two seasons in which it only collected 16 and 4 points respectively.
Interestingly, Racing Bulls and Aston Martin both have 36 points apiece, followed by Haas, with Alpine bringing up the rear of the field with a total of 19 points.
