Having displayed impressive pace across the practice sessions, Ferrari's Charles Leclerc ended up fourth on the grid, but the Monasque admitted there was no more performance to extract from his SF25.

Ferrari displayed strong pace on Friday, but the Scuderia fractionally lost its competitiveness for Saturday. However, Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton bounced back in qualifying to claim P4 and P5, respectively, albeit the seven-time F1 champion will serve a five-place grid penalty for a pre-race infringement from the Dutch Grand Prix.

Speaking of his qualifying, Leclerc added: "I’m very happy with my lap in Q3 and P4 was the maximum result we could extract from our car today.

"We had a really good race here last year, so I’ll do my best to reproduce that, not just because standing on the podium in Monza is an incredible feeling, but also for our tifosi who have given us so much support around the track all weekend.

"It’s going to be very tough to do, and so far, Red Bull and McLaren have had the upper hand, but we will give our all to make something special happen in the race."

Asked whether he could achieve more in qualifying, Leclerc replied: “Not much we can do more, especially in a Qualifying like this… I think the lap was great and I couldn’t do much more.”

Asked about his prospects for Sunday, and whether Ferrari’s race pace might be stronger, last year’s Monza winner added: “I hope so, I hope so. Overtaking is not going to be easy.

"I hope that staying within the DRS (Drag Reduction System) range of the guys in front can help us to go away with them and to do something special, but it’s going to be tough," added the Monegasque
