Driving at the limit - Kubica

As the Formula One circus has arrived at the Principality of Monaco for the upcoming Grand Prix, BMW Sauber's Robert Kubica explains why he loves the challenge that the street circuit of Monte Carlo provides.

"In the past I've always managed all right on street circuits," says Robert Kubica. He loves the challenge of moving his car at the limit in the narrowest of conditions.

"For the first time since the start of the season in Melbourne, high downforce is required again, and that's another reason why I'm looking forward to Monaco," Robert comments on the fifth Grand Prix of the year. "It's going to be a real challenge and I can't wait to see how well we do."

Last year, the Polish driver made his first Formula One experiences at the "Circuit de la Principauté" - however, not as a race driver, but as the team's driver during the practice sessions. Now, Robert is even happier to be able to compete in his maiden Monaco Grand Prix. "This year it will be an experience for me to appear there for the first time in a Formula One race," he confirms. "In 2006 I drove the F1 car on Friday at the GP, but not very much because of technical problems."

In 2004, Robert already got a taste of the Monaco circuit in the World Series by Renault, finishing the race in fifth place and later winning the championship title in superior style. He was even more successful at the "Asian Monte Carlo" - the "Guia Circuit" in Macau. Once a year the most successful Formula 3 drivers in the world compete against each other there. Three years ago, Robert started from pole position and crossed the line in second place.

Drivers who are successful in Macau are considered well prepared for the Formula One race in Monaco. The challenge on both tracks is very similar, as Robert explains: "There's very little room for error and you're driving at the limit virtually the whole time. You can't afford to slip up on these narrow streets."
