Alonso still uncertain about his future

It has been claimed for weeks now that Fernando Alonso will leave the McLaren Mercedes Team at the end of this season. Alonso and his manager, though, keep saying that the future of the Spanish driver is still uncertain.

Fernando Alonso remains optimistic about his season with McLaren although there were many problems between him and the team off track. The Spaniard said during the post-race press conference: "Outside the car for sure we have had some difficulties this year, but I think this is normal in all jobs and you have ups and downs, better moments and then worse moments, and as I said, I will have great memories of this year from my four victories I had in important places, where I had not won before, like Monza, and Monaco again for a second time. So, as I said, I will have great memories from this season."

When he left the circuit of Interlagos, Alonso declared that he still does not know what his future is: "I don't know. We will see what happens. As I always say, the first thing to see is that I have a contract for the coming years with McLaren.

"Speculation about whether I go to this team or another team are all lies, because until we see what McLaren want to do, there is nothing."

The fact that Alonso and his representatives were not present during the McLaren team dinner at Sao Paulo yesterday may point out that Alonso will not drive for the Woking-based team in 2008. For weeks now, the Spaniard has been linked with his former team Renault.
