Alonso lifted for championship

Fernando Alonso acknowledged he didn't want to risk a crash in the wheel to wheel duel with Juan Pablo Montaya in the beginning of the GP of Silverstone: "It wasn't worth risking it," Alonso said at the Silverstone venue, "especially with title rivals Kimi (Raikkonen) and Michael (Schumacher) behind me. I knew Juan Pablo was not going to, so I thought it's better to lift than crash into him."

It is a sign of the maturity of the Spaniard who is not just racing for overpowering a rival but to win a world championship. By avoiding a crash he did not even lose a chance for the win at Silverstone but he gained the possibility to take valuable points to his main rival Raikkonen.

Montoya had nothing to lose and so took the risk, although, he knew that Alonso would let him pass.
The Columbian said: "We were side by side so someone had to give up. He's fighting for the championship and I'm not, so chances were he would. I just wanted to win the race. It was pretty cool. We were really close, I thought we would touch but he bailed."

As usual, Montoya is all for a close battle but somehow got a present this time.
