It needs to be a night race - Ecclestone

Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone has declared to the 'Age' newspaper that the proposal of the Australian GP organisers for the race to start later in 2009 will not help to save the race at Melbourne.

Bernie Ecclestone said: "It needs to be a night race. It doesn't help a lot (the proposal for a later start). That's not really what we are looking for.

"It would be nice if the race was on at midday or 2:00 pm for European audiences, but I guess that would mean it starting in the middle of the night in Australia."
