Heidfeld values 'special atmosphere' at Silverstone

Motor racing's elite class has its roots in Silverstone: the very first Formula One race in history took place there on 13th May 1950. BMW Sauber F1 Team driver Nick Heidfeld looks ahead to the traditional venue, and describes the 5.141-kilometre "Silverstone Circuit".

"Over the main entrance to Silverstone there's a sign saying 'Home of British Motor Racing', and that really sums up the atmosphere here. This classic track has stayed true to its roots. It really has character, which I like," says Nick regarding the "Silverstone Circuit", which was built on a former Royal Air Force airfield after the Second World War.

A balanced set-up is the key to success at the British circuit: while the fast corners demand excellent aerodynamics, traction is required in the slow chicanes in the final third of the track. At the same time, the top speed must be high on the long straights.

"There are a lot of great high-speed sections, and some memorable corners and combinations like Stowe, Copse and Beckets," says Heidfeld. "Also, you can always count on the British spectators to create a special atmosphere. The British fans are really into racing; they're very well informed and enthusiastic. I hope we can put on a good show for them."
