Singapore GP increases spectator capacity

The organisers of the Singapore Grand Prix have increased the spectator capacity in response to the huge demand for tickets for the first ever night race. The grandstand on the inside of the final corner will be extended, and another stand constructed at Turn 14, after the cars return across the bridge from the marina. These will provide an extra 1500 seats.

The extra tickets will go on sale tomorrow as already 90% of the tickets for the Grand Prix weekend have sold out.

The organisers of the Singapore race already changed the designation of corners numbers, changing the left-right-left which was previously turns 10 and 11 to Turn 10 A,B and C, reducing the number of recognised turns to 23.

Michael McDonough, Singapore GP director, said: "What was Turns 10 and 11 was actually three corners close together, which were created to provide the right corner speed due to the lack of straight ahead run off in this part of the circuit. As it's created around what is in effect the approach to one corner, it was determined that one turn number (10) should be used, with A, B, and C to determine the changes in geometry through the turn."

The Singapore Grand Prix will take place on 28 September.
