Intel having second thoughts

It's believed that computer chip manufacturer Intel is having second thoughts about a deal with Mercedes McLaren Team and is seriously considering whether it wishes to be involved in Formula One or not.

The US giant, the world's largest computer chip manufacturer is understood to be furious that the sport's governing body, the FIA, has agreed a strategic partnership with arch-rival AMD.

There has been speculation that Intel was in talks with Williams F1 and McLaren, having finally opted to do a $50 million deal with with the woking based team.

The deal was scheduled to be unveiled at Monza, during the Italian Grand Prix, but this is when the FIA revealed its partnership with AMD while vice-president Henri Richard was appointed special technology advisor to the FIA.

Intel is currently a (minor) sponsor for the Panasonic Toyota Racing Team but it is unclear if they would change that if the sponsorship deal with McLaren goes on.
