Active: 04-07-2004 - 2004
Team: McLaren International Ltd

Designers: Mike Coughlan, Adrian Newey, Neil Oatley
Drivers: David Coulthard (5), Kimi Raikkonen (6)

The McLaren MP4-19B was introduced at the French GP at Magny-Cours, the 10th race of the 2004 season in an attempt to remedy the previous McLaren MP4-19. The car featured entirely redesigned sidepods, a further improvement on the troubled aerodynamics of the MP4-18 with which the team failed to get consistent aerodynamic performance.

At its first test, done in Silverstone ahead of the French GP, the car ran in the wet and went fastest, raising hopes for McLaren to be able to get closer to the utterly dominating Ferrari F2004. In France, David Coulthard immediately managed to qualify third and a day later finished 6th, just ahead of Kimi Raikkonen. One race later, at Silverstone, Raikkonen even got pole and finished second, scoring the team's first podium of the season. 3 more followed for Raikkonen, including the car's only win at the Belgian Grand Prix in Spa-Francorchamps.
