You forget they only decided in late 2013 that they were going back into F1 and we're begged to go in for 2015 by McLaren, when Honda wanted to wait another year. McLaren, who's Merc contract had expired in 2014, needed a PU.
More like early 2013 this article is from may 16, referring to a recent announcement. But of course this is just the announcement, the agreement happened some time before this.

But even if they only had 2014 to develop, with the unlimited development the result would still have been well below acceptable.
I really don't and will never understand the ragebait view behind this. Honda were totally unprepared, they admitted as much, brought in a year earlier by McLaren than they really wanted and then hamstrung by restrictive regs, but within 4 years they not only improved but managed to SURPASS both Renault and Ferrari (who never left btw) and then from 2021 to 2025 had the best PU on the field. Why is this achievement completely ignored just to flame their first couple of years (again, while handcuffed behind restrictive regs)?
They CLEARLY have the capability to do great things, and quickly. PLEASE move on lol.
Where do you see rage-bait here?
Their performance then and now was sub-par, abysmal even, considering the dacades of motorsport experience. Even the fundamentals were wrong, that's why the regs were so limiting to them.
The fact that they were able to deliver after a lot of help and time spent don't excuse or wash away those 4-5 years.
And they did it again, almost exactly the same way. Apparently they just as arrogant as they were in the 2010s. They couldn't be bothered with giving enough attention and assigning the proper people that the task required.

"Move on" you say. But Honda didn't, they made the same mistakes as they did then. They won't was away this blemish any-time soon. It might take decades.

Not so sure I’d call it a mistake. It is how they operate. They’ll get there, they always do.

You guys don't get tired of reiterating the same things over and over?

The upgrades will come and we'll see what they are like. We don’t have to keep guessing with little to no data.

they may need to start adding that into their contracts with the teams they are supplying, so everyone knows up front that its just "how they operate". that way no one will be upset when theyre uncompetitive for the first few years of their partnerships haha

Development by massive failure and utter humiliation. Brilliant.

And that’s ragebait allright.

Folks, if you have nothing NEW to say, it is best to say nothing. We’ll know soon enough.
But the forum needs better posts, not more same-same posts.

Agreed. The Aston team page has one of the larger page counts and for the last X amount of time has been an echo chamber. I view this team topic on a regular basis as I hope Aston can get it together, but I just see the same old stuff rinsed and repeated.

Agreed completely.
And yes. Extremely.
This thread has turned into an uninformed hate echo chamber with huge generalisations that ultimately serve zero purpose and only expose the poster to have a surface level grasp of what's going on and also no intention of adding constructive, relative or interesting debate.

My biggest concern is when we get to Hungary and the car isnt' suddenly 5th fastest we'll have to endure another tirade of "ugh pathetic effort, this team is s***"...

I suspect Alonso will find a few tenths himself in Hungary, if Spain wins the cup

70 point of downforce will give them maximum 0.4 sec.
According to them (who were actualy in F1) it's 2 and a 1/4-ish seconds.
Man! You cant change the physics! Even not who work on F1! Nobody said that will give them 2+ sec! In F1, if you did everything perfect, then 1 downforce point is 0.01sec. So from this not hard to calculate out 70x0.01=0.7sec, but since no perfection in F1 and especially not at AM team is will worth less. They said as a whole package or modifications worth that much.

I got to learn something With the new upgrades there will be a modification to help soak up the vibration better with the new bracing for the chassis so the car will be still above minimum weight by quite a bit but it will gain a few hp and more power from the ers (motor spinning) system as well so better regen.
Halo not as bad as we thought

FWIW it was more like an expression of disappointment.

This sounds like "because I say so" physics.

Since Newey said the rear suspension is redesigned (and they were pointing at rake in that podcast), I wonder what direction will they be going. Abandon the exceptionally high rake approach or double down on it, and try to make it work better.
