Red Bull RB8 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Is that a vent in the nose?

The step in the nose simply stalls the airflow in that area I believe? Not really much of a difference other than being uglier than the others now.

Could it possibly be an intake for an F-duct-like system?

I like the nose treatment. It's strong and purposeful and embraces the new regulations with a bold statement, rather than trying to soften it's effect.

More likely driver cooling. They don't have the hole in the end of the nose.

This could affect the airflow around and over the cockpit as well.

In RB8 case the nose goes down in a less steep way than other cars .The flap is there to meet the 2012 regulations , B & C points in the image below .

A clever interpretation of rules , something that Newey is keen on since mc laren days .
