On last years winter testing in Barcelona, Michael did a 1:21.268 (overall best time of the winter tests) In Qualifying of Barcelona they were suddenly so far away from that. I still can't see why... :/
I raised this exact point last year just before the Catalunya race weekend! and my jaw dropped when i saw the could not get within 1 second of the test times.veYda25 wrote:VarioR wrote:Last Year's Qualifying Barcelona GP (21/05/2011)

Because when there are testing they are using a different track lay-out.

And on softs - probably used.Schurcedes wrote:He was doing 1:30s before the red flag, I think it's fair to assume that was on full tanks.

Although one must remember that the engine-mapping parc ferme rules only came into place at Valencia 2011. Teams were purported to be gaining many tenths of a second through ultra-aggressive engine maps intended only for qualifying. That would have included the Spanish GP.Lurk wrote:Parc fermé rule can explain that. In testing you could setup your car for a single flying lap while in race weekend your qualifiying setup is your race setup too.
Plus Barcelona tyre specs was I think hard & soft while they could run supersoft during winter tests.
Mclaren's looks to be in a similar location too.nacho wrote:Interesting how far ahead in the nosecone the steering arm is.
