Mercedes AMG F1 W03

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

I believe it is limited to surfaces 'in contact with the external air stream'. In this case the duct would be involved.

If the regulation specifies a minimum concave radius, how does that preclude a slot? Surely the local radius at the slot would be convex, I.e. the wing surface bending back in upon itself?

i think the wing elements are normal. I suspect the end plates are bypassing the air from the inner side as the drs lifts. The endplates are less restricted.

maybe some cross flow business is going on under there to stall the wing from underneath.

this is more like it:

i dont think it goes to the beam wing or that it's a signal pipe; which is possible still, but the stalling the beam wing is pretty difficult due to the low camber of its shape. Everything may be happening at the rear wing.
For Sure!!

Well, its cold. ;)

Observations:
- Ted Kravitz is still believing in the wrong-way (i.e. back to front) version of the "f-duct".
- Rosberg's lap wasn't remarkable. (Then again, it was just a first sighter on a damp track.)
- I believe the heat shielding on the sidepods and upper wishbones has been slightly revised.

The camera just followed Schumacher for one lap:
- The front wing is flexing and is NOT being stalled.
- Schumacher is FAST.
- The W03 seems to handle very well for both drivers.

Edit after lap onboard Rosberg's car:
- Front wing still flexing, not stalling.
- He is fast, too. But Anthony Davidson said the car looked lighter than the Red Bulls did.
- He complained about understeer just now.

If it is creating an imbalance during Qual then just close the DRS flap. How may corners benefit from a low drag setup? During the races it is not an issue and stalling the main wing would be a benefit.

Scrabs proposal is now off the table.

Lol i just love the way people dismiss Scrabs because their arm chair is better than scrab's personal contacts in the f1 paddock

Wow, we have made it down to childish ad hominem attacks... classy.

Pup: Actually, you can have two different kinds of blown flaps:
- Blowing in line with the surface, i.e. improving flow.
- Blowing straight out of the surface, i.e. forcing the flow to detach.

you wont be able to 'see' the stalling
just like we were not able to 'see' the f-duct stalling the rear wing

I'd think that if the wing is flexible enough that you could see it, unless it's so flexible that it does so even when stalled.

I am just quoting this for posterity. I don't think I need to make any more arguments.

Why I feel like kind of a deja-vu with 2009 season BGP001?

James Allen was reporting from the pitlane, and what he said was VERY VERY promising..
I know, we all know it's too early, but Merc Have made a Substantial step forward, better than what they expected - just a one liner of what he said
