Ferrari F14T

They knew several years ago what they needed to build, it's either bad technical management or lack of money.
The problem is the complexity of PU: ferrari is a good factory with a lot of competent suppliers, but this year change was just too big for them. Domenicali said many times that the employees under their engine department of Formula 1 was like a half of Mercedes one, which spent half a billion on this engine project. Chassis, aero, vehicle dynamics are all comparable between Ferrari, MB, Red Bull. Engines aren't.

The fantastic information. Great portifolio Zytek.
Question:
If you change the supplier to MGU-H and MGU-K can be reformulated (for something better) ?
Thanks

Maybe a new chassis for Kimi.

The power unit is frozen, but does that also go for auxiliary components such as the mgu the wiring, the connectors, heat exchangers etc?

There is no such thing as switching focus from one part of the car to another. Its not like your aerodynamic staff can switch focus to the engine :P

All departments have independent priorities.

Frankly, yes you are being harsh. I think Mercedes did a great job rather than Ferrari did a bad one.

And this is just due to breath of Mercedes as a company which has really a huge R&D infrastructure. R&D department of Fiat/Ferrari (even Renault's) is weak compared to Mercedes.

This is one of the reasons why I am so happy we have this new engines and Honda is coming back. Honda is comparable to Mercedes!

Mercedes also did V10 and V8 engines, they were good engines and Ferrari didn't came too far behind like they are now so the problem is Ferrari and not Mercedes doing a brilliant job, this is proved by Ferrari lack of improvment, they're getting slower and slower compared to the rest.

Renault even with less resources than Ferrari did a better engine and is slowly getting better.

No, the Ferrari *engine* is still strong - according to them - the problem is getting it to work with the other available power, something with which they have much less experience than their rivals.

Nevertheless, as the only manufacturer with engine and chassis on one site, not getting this right is a big opportunity missed.

If Renault can recover with software updates than I don't doubt that Ferrari will improve too

Interesting ... no single area identified. No potentially quick and easy area such as ERS integration software held up as a particular focus. No obviously known problem area.

Interesting to me that I posted earlier on here about the very lively suspension that caught my eye as being odd. Nobody picked up on it at the time. If someone well informed about suspension would like to pick it up now then that would be great

Probably some areas (aero, ?) may give a better result quicker than developing others.
I'm a bit surprised to see mentioned the "suspensions", but I guess he's talking about the rear ones to try to find better traction.

I think they will be allowed do some changes for "safety" or "cost cutting" reasons... like Renault when their engine was a little down on HP some years ago

Maybe they can try to tell that with the actual engine they are so slow to become a safety issue. Can they?
It's a conjecture, but i think that a big part of Ferrari PU problems are ES related. It's look like they can't use it with the same efficiency of Merc PU. The Merc splited turbo give them a big advantage in therm of packaging but i think that almost all of their extra horse power comes out of hybrid part of the PU, in particular form how much fast they can charge the ES without overheating or damaging it.

An overheating ES can be a safety issue... if they picked the wrong size of the turbo they are stuck with it for the whole season.
