Scuderia Ferrari SF16-H

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

whilst basically off topic, that is the 2015 wing on a 2015 car. but as the tyre offset is inwards, the end plates needed to be cranked to clear the tyres

But they have to simulate the down force levels of 2017 so it probably is wider to a degree

Pretty sure the Wing is wider. End plates likely connect at the exact same point as 2015 as changing them would be much more intense than what you suggest. The floor width was increased as well. Basically everything moved away from center line except the suspension/brakes/wing end plate mount points.

Way to costly to modify those structures for a test like this.

all of those little changes were made just to get the car to as close to as possible of the 2017 rules, but because of obvious reasons, ferrari can't make a 2017 spec car and do testing with it, yet. so they've just modified it to sort of represent the sort of downforce that the cars will have next year.

the rw is just wider, but not lower (as they're going to be) because the aerodynamics of this car is basicly designed for a high rw. they would also have to make a new floor, to fit a 2017 spec wing.
there are skirts to generate more ground effect, because the diffusors are bigger next year. and i bet ferrari didn't want to, or wasn't allowed to make a new diffusor or a floor, to 2017 spec.

if they would've slapped on 2017 spec wings and floor, the rest of the aerodynamics would've needed redesigning.
what they did now, was they used tricks to get more downforce and ground effect, by just adding aero bits on the original car, to simulate 2017 specs.

this was a 'cheap' and functional way to test the tires, because they can collect relative data that can be comparable.
i have dyslexia and english is not my native language. please be gentle.

I think this confirms the rear wing is much larger

To seal the edges and generate more downforce?

Can we stop discussing 2015 Cars, 2017 Cars and 2017 Tires in the 2016 Ferrari Thread?

There is a Thread for 2015 Cars Testing 2017 Tires:
http://www.f1technical.net/forum/viewto ... =1&t=24264

There is a Thread for 2017 Cars:

There is a Thread for 2017 Tires:
http://www.f1technical.net/forum/viewto ... &start=105

Nothing of that has anything to do with the SF16-H

Did not read the rules as it had changed so many times

What is the final height of the diffuser? 175 mm? (currently 125)

They could have just used the 2013 floor.
