Mercedes-AMG F1 W10 EQ Power+

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Interesting sculpting of the upper fairing on the Halo at either side... Presumably to help condition airflow.
Favourite driver: Lando Norris
Favourite team: McLaren

Turned down the chance to meet Vettel at Silverstone in 2007. He was a test driver at the time and I didn't think it was worth queuing!! 🤦🏻‍♂️

Nose is(seems) narrower, I guess its to improve the airflow. Sidepods and all this area is very developed, which is not a surprise. Too early to say that the new rear can help to improve tyre managment without damaging the one lap performance.

Those two big number "11" ducts at the front seem to be there to do a hell of a lot more than cool the driver. That's looking very interesting indeed. It's not on the release car pictures, but it's front and center on the car they put on track to do filming with.
You mean the S duct which is a carryover from last year by the 77 not 11 number decal

Merc is definitely doing something weird to me.

The front wing looks very neutral, not in wash or out wash.

The entire tea tray area looks like a giant snow covered in winglets and vortex generators.

In the pre-launch renders they had this interesting looking wing/appendage connected to the side pod, and it showed up on the actual car.

It seems like it would be very draggy, but it appears like Merc wants inwash at the front wing so the can use the bat wing, snow plow, barge boards and turning veigns to work the air to death. I can't see how they would get that much flow turned around the side pods.

Jokingly it seems like they just moved the out wash effect from the front wing, to just in front of the sidepods.

I'm sorry but you've contradicted yourself and there is no way you can tell that the car is draggy without cfd or windtunnel

I said looks! Something can look one way, but not actually function that way.

Kind of this area looks raised? Or it is just an illusion?

Btw, the livery resounds to that of W01, I just hope it doesn't drive like it.

So it looks a certain way to you, but you also know it functions a different way, and you state both :wtf:

your head would be one confusing place to live
You look at the wing, and then you look at everything behind it, and try to piece together how everything works as a concept. Components don't work in isolation.

3 supports for each mirror?
I see only two, the outboard one is sculped for airflow

I reckon that the black line which you have marked in green is the seam from the headrest area.

Sorry for the crude work (obviously not an expert). Took an image from the following link and done some silly work.

A comparison of RB15 Vs W10 rear. RB15 have packaged the PU ancillaries in a vertical fashion, whereas W10 has gone slightly horizontal, but seems like more compact. Look at the empty floor area and open space inside the rear wing. There is more space open on W10 than RB15 (may be because RB15 has relatively shorter wheel base?).
