Hamilton vs Vettel - third stint battle

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rdQI01Q ... e=youtu.be
Interesting that Hamilton was getting "cool car" warning messages during that chase. Also, as he was making his pass, there is a message "ERS RECOVERED". I wonder if the two are linked.
What stood out in that video for me was the mistakes Vettel was making. There were 2 or 3 big apex misses, and then the biggest mistake wasn't even on camera. Either that car was crap, or he's under unbelievable pressure already.
I think he still didn't find right balance for the car. He mentioned that during whole weekend.

He really missed the apex at T1. After that there was no chance for him in T4. Bottas also did his part in compromising Vettel's last corner.
IMO Ferrari shouldn't have waited for hamilton to pit to cover him. It was obvious that Hamilton will pit due to his sudden performance drop on soft tires.
By doing this they gave away 3-4 seconds and brought Hamilton into DRS, and then Vettel dragged him around for couple of laps...

some very nice racing by norris ( -lap 1). He's taking a a very wide apex trough T4 when following another car but still maintaining very high corner speed.

Hadn't realised that Norris went backwards through effectively avoiding someone else's moment. Shame as he seems to be very mature in amongst other cars.

I meant Max's incident in T2 where he turned in on another car. It was quite widely discussed at the time. You may remember it.
If you mean the Ocon incident I agree that was a similarly stupid move from Verstappen. Aggravated by the fact that there was zero reason to challenge Ocon.
Well, it seems he learnt from it. Didn't do the same thing although he *almost* did :D I blame him for Saintz incident too :D I dislike him. haha

If you compare to the line that the Merc in front, Sainz brakes early and moves to the right so much earlier.
Jeez. This doesn't even make grammatical sense.
I'm sorry, let me rephrase my comment.

If you compare the driving of Sainz to the Mercedes car that is in front of him, you will notice that Sainz brakes and turns to the corner a lot earlier than the Mercedes. To me this indicates that he was trying to block the inside line to the corner but Verstappen didn’t co-operate with him.

Yes. Well Verstappen was there, so he had no business driving into him.

I think Vettel was starting to pull away from Ham just before they caught up to Bottas. Ham probably used a lot of his tire and battery to attack on the previous lap. Probably Vettel's tires were just getting in the right temperature. Mercedes played the strategy perfectly yet again. Even saying all that if Vettel didn't run wide in T1 he would have most likely held the position, and win the race

What exactly do they mean by "follow the numbers on the dash" ? I've heard other teams say it to their drivers too.

I think it's for fuel in this case, but they use it for other things as well I suppose. What are those ?

I think it's time deltas i.e. lap time pace.

Tire wear ? I remember people talking about something related to slip numbers or something on the merc dash a few years ago.

Hello all!

I have been doing performance analysis for years but admittedly my technical knowledge is weak. So I'm hoping this forum could answer a burning question of mine.

Vettel said after the race that he wasnt happy with the balance of his car. Now the question is, does balance issues apply to braking as well? Because seemingly the SF90 never twitched under braking nor did he mention anything about it. The reason why I'm asking this is because Im struggling to get my head around how could someone of his caliber miss the apex in Turn 1 for the first 14 laps in a row! Has he really lost his edge so dramatically or is this balance related? Thanks.

I have compiled a video below illustrating Vettel's troubles in the first 10 laps and a lap of Leclerc for comparison.

I find Hamilton's recient quote about Honda being within 10bhp of Mercedes amusing
I can understand saying within 10 or 20 kph.....But really, with all the attention to detail required in the cockpit during the race, the thought of "Hey, Honda"s like 10 bhp down on us"
C' mon Hamy...Just drive and win!!!
