Mercedes-AMG F1 W10 EQ Power+

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

The two photos aren't from the same angle, one is from further forward which will accentuate the apparent shape in the area highlighted.
If you are more fortunate than others, build a larger table not a taller fence.

You need to look harder then, because everyone I've talked with this morning can see their is a difference. Look at the O and N in Petronas
I don't see any change in sidepods in your photos, but let's wait for journos/confirmation from teams.

Typically, Fabrega reports on new parts and he hasn't in Merc's case, despite posting a photo of the sidepods yesterday on Twitter.

I think I see it now but not sure if it's the reflection of the stool next to the sidepod. It's incredibly subtle if it is.

Check the shots I posted from the other side of the car.

It's the same man still don't know what are you talking about.
And also the angles of the photo are different.

It's funny how you name the O and the N, because if you compare them, you'd see the curvature starts on exactly the same place in those letters.

You're going to need to draw it for because they look exactly the same.

Canada:

It looks like their are more changes further back as well, but not as pronounced as at the front of the sidepods. The sharks fin also has a new bulge on it.
My humble opinion is that there's a difference. It's tiny, but it looks sharper. Thanks. But the question is : why ? The only explanation is the new engine spec (with different implantation of some elements).

To make it clearer I decided to quickly learn just enough to show it's similarity. I decided to go for the letters and the arch, as this will be similar regardless of angle. The curvature outside of the red spots show that the letters are covered exactly the same, thus, there is no actual change in the sidepod shape.

Yep, looks the same to me and any subtle differences could simply be down to lighting.

I think you are looking at this to globally, or thinking I'm suggesting a more significant change.

I don't have the proper tools at work to illustrate it better, so GIMP will have to do. I and the people I have talked to today have looked at the shots from both sides of the cars and this is what we see as the difference.

Take a cross section through the sidepods.

In Spain they come up and roll over to the top (left). In Canada it looks like they come up and bulge out some before rolling over the top.

That's down to lighting and the tilt of the bodywork as the two are angled (racked) differently in 'pitch' and the Spain picture has been taken from a taller vantage..

The aberration you're seeing and highlighted in your drawing is certainly explained by reflections and lighting dans79.

Keep in mind the R75 rule.
