Mercedes-AMG F1 W10 EQ Power+

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Just a guess, somewhere between 1 and 3 tenths I would say, more towards 1 though.
The very sensible part right in front of the rear wheel is still intact albeit still compromised.
Also depends on how well you can cope with the now less stable rear end.
Hamilton was quoted as saying 2 tenths per lap, so you pretty much nailed your estimate range.
James Allison in the debrief for the race mentioned the damage to the floor + front wing endplate cost Hamilton about 0.1 second a lap.
Yep, which makes sense, considering Hamilton's comments were post-race, whereas Allison's came after the team had time to do a debrief, examine the car, crunch the numbers, and conclusively review the data.

That 1 tenth/lap equated to about 7 seconds of race time (also mentioned by Allison) in Mexico, which is the number that definitively illustrates how very costly damage like that can be.

We also learned that the portion of the floor that was destroyed is called the "wouvre panel" (which I did not know, previously).

Comparison of cooling arrangements trialed in Mexico (the latter was utilized for qualifying and the race):

And some further information about why Mercedes had been marginal on PU cooling:

"[Mercedes' cooling issues] had arisen from a simple miscalculation in the car’s conception stage as the radiator sizes were being determined, which was not discovered until well after the car had been made with the bodywork packaged around that erroneous number."

"The correction of that error was incorporated into the Hockenheim aerodynamic upgrade, which was timely as Hockenheim that weekend saw a record-breaking heatwave, with the ambient in the lower 40 degrees Celsius. That and Mexico (where the ambient was only in the early 20 degrees but with 25% fewer air molecules because of the elevation) last weekend demonstrated that the Mercedes now can now be adequately cooled even at the most demanding venues."

Is it just me or is the livery a bit darker? Or matte? Or is it just exposure compensation for the brightness at the time of the shot?

It definitely looks darker in these photos, but like you said, I think it's the lighting playing tricks.

Its got that morning sun look to it and it's quite bright so it's probably messing with the exposure a bit. That being said, I would love to see the Merc in a matte livery. I think it could look pretty cool.

Looks like a second air inlet above the normal brake duct, pushing air between the rim and wheel hub?
