Ham is the GOAT and Bottas is not that good. Not as bad as he was today (although once you loose track position today you were toast anyway) but nowhere near Hamilton. People here don’t need to big him up, it doesn’t detract from Hamilton’s shine to be honoust about Bottas. Hamilton is proving time and time again on his own merit what his worth is.
I think Bottas is very good. Anyone that can steal poles and occasional race wins from Hamilton, the greatest in the history of F1 in both of those metrics, while in the same machinery, is good.
FFS with the hyperboles. He's good. Around as good as Alonso, by the looks of it.
But you couldn't even make such statements even if he wasn't winning two person championships. Where one of them is a clearly inferior driver.

I wonder how they'll think of this era in the future. For me the last ~20 years are the dark ages, provided that 2022 regs brings the much needed improvements. (otherwise its continuing) One morbid team dominance after another, with teams/drivers piling up statistics. And utterly dreadful on track action for the most part.
There’s no hyperbole involved. I think you need to look up what that word means.

Hamilton is 1st in race wins.

1st in poles.

Literally.

It's like people forget that the world champion, 95% of the time has the best car that year.

It’s bizarre. Look, I agree with what VET said yesterday: Hamilton is the greatest of this generation. That’s huge praise coming from a 4x WDC who knows what he’s talking about. VET said while Schumacher remains his emotional hero, Hamilton’s on-track achievements make him the best.

On a side note, VET had a hilarious way of tackling the question of comparing drivers from different eras. VET said it’s impossible to pick one or the other between HAM and Fangio, for example.

Why? As VET said, this generation could be crapping their pants driving those old machines, and the old generation may have been crapping their pants in 2020 cars because they don’t have the athleticism and physicality to deal with the speed of today’s machines.

I love VET’s brutal honesty.

If only the community at large was as pragmatic about it as Vettel seems to be. But it's a difficult as for some and they like to have the last word. And so it goes and so it goes and so it goes.

I just realised something.

Rosberg has beaten two 7 time world champions over a season. I rate Rosberg highly, but that's a disturbing little stat.
Why do you think he retired, he was utterly exhausted after that. A feat that may well and truly never be matched. :)

Well, if you have two defeat 14 years worth of WDC in 2 years who wouldn’t be exhausted.

Since the inception of WCC in 1958 there have been just 10 occasions when the WDC individual didn't drive for the WCC team. That’s 16%. Decade by decade the occasions are:
50s 1
60s 0
70s. 2
80s 4
90s 2
00s. 1
10s. 0

So you’re right if you only look at this century.

Funny enough Hamilton is the only one this century McLaren losing to Ferrari in 2008.

That statistic only proves that the driver who wins scores the most points, hence the teams also winning. Circular logic.

Yes there is, a pretty unfounded one at that.

Literally, it means that he's the most successful driver as far as those statistics are concerned. Nothing more.

Looking at this season, I put Bottas ahead of

Grosjean, Kmag, Giovinazzi, Kimi, Kvyat, Ocon, Vettel, Albon, Latifi, Stroll

That puts him inside the top 10 and right now I feel he would hold his own against Norris, Gasly, Russell and Sainz.
So Hamilton, Verstappen, Leclerc, Ricciardo, Perez are the only drivers I would say are stronger than Bottas.
I wouldn't put him ahead of Räikkönen. He had some outstanding drives with a clearly lackluster car.

Someone here yesterday asked for Leclerc's board radio after the finishline when he pulled up on the side.
I think it was I. But I was interested in the whole of the last lap on-board action between the three drivers. (With Leclerc beating the steering wheel as a bonus. :) )

Anyway, the official, race on-boards should surely cover this.

Bottas’ steering rack was damaged to the point he didn’t have full lock, which prevented him from being able to correct slides.

Did you actually take a moment to research what damage actually occurred before making your grand couch proclamations?
You're not contradicting anything I said. You're style is amusing when it seems like you didn't even read my whole comment.

So i can understand his frustration he was there he was ready and when he saw Perez lose it for an instant he pulled the trigger and then made an eager rookie mistake of driving with too much speed into the final corner.

So i can totally understand why he was frustrated.
I wouldn't call it a rookie mistake, but a plain mistake, he didn't even went off the track. (I would call Russel's Imola crash a rookie mistake)
He also went through a really thick looking patch of tire rubble when he went around Perez, as you can see in the replay.
As for the turns they were very different. There was nothing to be gained for Lecerec by leaving the track, there was a huge grass field by the exit of the turn.
