Red Bull RB8 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

If that's a pictures of the rear, then Red Bull should have a major change to the entire rear end (notice lack of tunnel/sidepod trailing slope). A-spec for Canada?
Yeppers. I'm looking at others and it definitely looks like on one car at least they're reverting back to launch spec
Or this is simply their low downforce spec that they have planned to run at circuits like Montreal and Monza all along? This was one of the few tracks that Red Bull were towards to top (by Red Bull standards anyway, Vettel was 7th fastest in Qual) of the speed traps last year...

I can believe that. They've had problems reconciling the wind-tunnel and real-life for the tunnel/coanda ramp, so any chance to reduce draw or stagnation points would be a bonus. Also, as it seems to be a more stable overall design, it could help Vettel and Webber(?) attack the corners.

Yes. The throttle sensitivity could be what they are after in this situation. Normally I would have just bought that - but Monaco is somewhere where you need a predictable car even more, with lots of confidence. If they saw fit to run the coanda exhaust in Monaco I don't see why they'll change it for here - except if they have decided to just forget the exhaust and knuckle down on the fundamental aerodynamics of the car.

As usual it looks like the RB is running quite a bit of rake. Amazing they are able to consistently do this while other teams are not able to follow suit.

it just shows that their car can flex at high speeds ? maybe?

anyway about the floor, why dont RBR jut make a small slit connecting their enclosed hole to the outside ....thus making it not enclosed but till has all the effect intended?? jut like the gills are legal due to slits connecting to exhaut opening.

anyone fancy this idea?

They can of course, but the slotted floor is only of benefit on slow circuits, and Montreal is a high speed circuit.

No, it's of benefit everywhere. China is a fast circuit and Red Bull used the slots there. It doesn't matter what circuit they're on, the slots help at all of them.

I am not 100% sure, but I think problem was not only that hole was enclosed but that it was also on the part of the floor where it is forbidden. On the other hand, Ferrari and Sauber have their gills at the outer 50mm part of the floor.

I always thought the slots were a sign of the floor not doing what it's meant to. A floor without them indicates that they are not needed and would not bring an advantage if they did add them.

note how on webber's they are angled inwards, they are taking measurements off the flow from the inside of the tyre, most likely to test front wing :D

They're angled to match the general direction of flow, just like McLaren do with their diffuser rake.

Red Bull has new winglet above the rear brake duct (note opening in the aerofoil):
