Ferrari 150° Italia

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

animated PNG

Post

imightbewrong wrote:I made some more animated png (if they are not animating for you, then you need a different browser) that show the differences between Mac, Merc and Ferrari. I know they are not 100% the same angle, but good to give an idea. I have tried to line them up against the engine inlet and the side head protections to get a good comparison of the main body.
I'm x-posting it for all three relevant cars.

Which program do you use for animated PNG?

To be honest, never heard of animated PNG before.

I used this super simple one:
http://animatedpng.com/index.php/assembler/

I downloaded the command line file and used that. Very easy to use and quite effective.

Edit: On that site they have a list of software: http://animatedpng.com/index.php/software/
I now use the apng plugin for paint.net :D

For the love of god (note no upper case G!) why can't you guys distinguish the difference between the actual car thread, for technical discussion, and the one about the lawsuit between Ford and Ferrari about the naming rights? #-o

As with other threads were we've said it over and over again, the off topic posts will be moved out without warning. If you know you posted something off topic go to the appropriate thread and chances are that your post(s) will be there.

Really? Still seems as high to me. Or it could be the angle. I wonder if it's because of his braking. Martin Brundle said it a while back (in theValencia race) that Alonso seemed to tend to submarine under when he was braking heavily.

If we compare it to Massa i think it's now lower than before:

New gills in the area behind the driver (under the Scuderia Ferrari banner).

And they've opened up the McLaren-style vents on the top of the sidepod. You can see how the internal routing for that curves rearwards - presumably to pull air from the top part of the radiator.

These vents seem to be a convoluted way of getting air out of the sidepod. Perhaps that's why McLaren dropped the idea.

I thought it was just an access panel open during the time in the garage, since there aren't any pics of it being opened up out on the track. That's why I didn't mention it in the previous post.

And if anything I would call it an inlet instead of an outlet, if it were for cooling at all.

The front edge is sharp, the rear edge is radiused. You'd only do that it you wanted air to come out of it.

If it were an access panel I'd expect sharp edges all round, if an inlet then the leading edge would be radiused to help flow inwards.

+1...it definitely is to let air out.
