Ferrari F2012

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

I'll reserve judgment until I see another picture. As of now, it really looks like a reflection to me.

(Most reported "updates" around here really are optical-only in nature. This stuff is rarely as sexy as you want it to be.)

But, I'd like to see another picture to be sure.

That's definitely a reflection of either the beam wing or a suspension member.

A slot would be illegal. As the regs say...
When viewed from the side of the car no longitudinal vertical cross section may have more than one section in this area. Furthermore, no part of this section in contact with the external air stream may have a local concave radius of curvature smaller than
100mm.
Maybe it broke.

The regulations these days are as such that you can pretty much bank on the following truth:

When in doubt, it's most likely a reflection.

Mr.G wrote:I'm not aerodynamic, but his is how I imagine when I see the slot. Could it be possible? There are some type of slots on the sides on the rear of the wing. And what if the flow around the botom side of the wing suck the air form the inside of the wing and then it suck the air of the rear sides from the wing? Could this be some aerobenefit or is total crap? :)

Or maybe is only a reflection similar to transparent engine cover :D
