Ferrari F138

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Further away and higher up, interesting. No idea what difference that will make though.

Well, I'm guessing the teams are entirely within their right to not show their full hand at the launch. It's probably more of a show-off for sponsors than anything else.

It's clearly the best lookin car to date with the 4 that have launched I think McLaren is easily #2 because the way this nose is presented and the livery the refined detail of the car.... I'm extremely impressed it looks amazing..

Ferrari seems to have similar strakes on the diffuser as the RB had in 2012. Here the image I've taken from the video, that shows the strakes:

Seems also that they now have a revised beam wing with curved edges.
Interesting RW vanes view indeed!
So, no one else noticed the "RBish" strakes in the diffuser?

As always its a trade off. With the McLaren exhaust farther back and lower, they should get more effect from exhaust blowing, but at the expense of less airflow around the coke bottle section to the center of the diffuser. The Ferrari design on the other hand is trading less EBD for a more open path to get more airflow over the center section of the diffuser. If I had to guess I would thing the McLaren would be better for lower speed corners, with the Ferrari being better on the higher speed.

I noticed them, just didn't post. :) Scarab's mentioned them as well in his youtube F138 analysis.

Is it possible that Ferrari use a completely new chassis and rad layout at first test?

I don't think so. New parts, yes, as Pat Fry said, but a complete new chassis would mean that they made one just for the lauch (since this is not a modified F2012) and it doesn't worth it (or make sense).

The one showed today is the 2013 chassis. The roll hoop has the same triangle shape as the 2012, but the corners are more curved.
Also, the black carbon fiber part attached to the tea tray, is different.

No, I think that's the 2013 chassis.
