F1 Test, Jerez, Circuit Permanente de Jerezes

Romain Grosjean put the Lotus E21 on top of the timesheets in day 2 of the F1 pre-season test at Jerez. Grosjean enjoyed a fruitful day with 95 laps on the tally of his new car. Most attention however went to Lewis Hamilton who crashed on his first day of testing.

Mercedes continues to struggle through winter testing, as a right rear brake failure resulting in Hamilton crashing into a tyre wall at turn 6. Hamilton, performing his own first day of testing with the Mercedes F1W04 managed to do only 14 laps before being confronted with the hydraulic loss of pressure on the right caliper, causing him to have no braking power on the right rear wheel. The crash was minor, but the car was still quite damaged at the front, including the broken front suspension that forced Mercedes to perform repairs on the car for the remainder of the day. A video of the crash was released on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aK-U1EKNcX0

Meanwhile at Force India testing duties were shared between Paul Di Resta who drove for most of the day, setting the second fastest time while completing 95 laps. James Rossiter was given his chance in the car in the final hour of the test.

Daniel Ricciardo also went strong in the Toro Rosso while Mark Webber comfortably ran 101 laps thereby becoming the busiest driver of the day.
