Norris: "It’s everything I dreamed of, everything I've ever wanted to achieve"

Having secured his first home victory at the British Grand Prix, McLaren driver Lando Norris stated that his triumph at Silverstone was "everything I dreamed of, everything I've ever wanted to achieve."
McLaren drivers Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris started from P2 and P3 on the grid at Sunday's British Grand Prix. Starting in the wet, the Australian managed to extract more grip from his inters than race-leader Verstappen could and picked off the Dutchman for the lead.
The Melbourne-born driver managed to build up an enormous lead of over 13 seconds over Verstappen and Norris. However, a safety car period meant that the championship leader lost his comfortable lead.
At the second Safety Car restart, Piastri braked heavily, and Verstappen shot past him. The stewards rules that the Australian had not followed procedure and handed him a 10-second time penalty. Just moments after this incident, Verstappen had spun at the exit of Stowe and dropped back.
It left Piastri and Norris at the front of the field, and they managed to build a huge advantage over the field. When the papaya cars pitted for slick tyres, Norris emerged ahead after Piastri served his penalty. That left the Brit to enjoy the last few laps before crossing the line to win his home race for the first time.
Reflecting on his first home victory, Norris praised his fans who cheered on him at his own grandstand, claiming that his supporters "made the difference" at Silverstone.
“It was hard to imagine what this would be like – but it’s everything I dreamed of, everything I've ever wanted to achieve. Aside from winning a Championship, I think this is as good as it gets in terms of feelings, in terms of achievement.
"It was an incredible race, but the support of the fans made the difference today. The last few laps, I was looking into the crowd, trying to take it all in and enjoy the moment.
"Shout out to my grandstand in the corner. They were amazing. They cheered me on every lap, and it was really a beautiful thing," Norris continued.
“As for the race itself, it was about as stressful as they can get. It’s a long 52 laps, you never knew what was going to happen, especially when it was raining earlier.
"But the team made good decisions, we pitted at the right times and got an amazing result. Thank you to the team for their incredible work - these are memories I’ll have forever.”
