TECH DEBRIEF: Williams rolled out an extensive upgrade package at Spa

Williams scored a total of eleven points last time out at the Belgian Grand Prix on a weekend when they rolled out an extensive upgrade package at Spa-Francorchamps. F1Technical's senior writer Balazs Szabo delivers his latest analysis.
Williams has rolled out an extensive upgrade package at last weekend's Spa-Francorchamps race. The Grove-based team submitted a total of five performance upgrades in Belgium, headlined by a redesigned floor with revised fence geometries and a more complex floor edge wing.
Each of the forward floor fences have been reprofiled to change their camber. The detailed geometry at the trailing edge of each fence has also been updated.
As for the floor edge wing and spat, they have been reprofiled with a more complex curvature. The lateral hole at the rear of the spat has also been subtly reshaped.
The team noted that these changes aim to redistribute aerodynamic loading, increasing front-of-floor downforce while improving downstream flow.
In addition, the changes to the floor meant that Williams also had new sidepods and a new engine cover to work with the revised floor.
The lower lip of the sidepod cooling inlet has been modified and is now lower at the inboard end and higher at the outboard end. This supports the revisions to the bodywork described below whilst maintaining the same inlet cooling flow.
Behind the changes to the sidepod inlets, the revised engine cover features a deeper undercut to the bodywork. This is achieved by raising the lower surface of the main sidepod belly.
