Despite its dominant position both on track and in the championship standings, McLaren continues to bring upgraded parts to races on a regular basis, with the papaya outfit having introduced a new rear wing at Spa-Francorchamps. F1Technical's senior writer Balazs Szabo delivers his latest analysis.

Championship leader Oscar Piastri endured disappointment when he got beaten by his team-mate Lando Norris in the standard qualifying session on Sunday.

However, the 24-year-old managed to make up for the defeat on the opening lap of the Belgian Grand Prix. Piastri got a better run than his team mate through the complex of Eau Rouge and Raidillon, allowing him to then make the move on the Kemmel straight.

As drivers switched from intermediates to slick tyres, Piastri enjoyed priority, pitting a lap earlier than Norris which allowed him to build up a margin of over eight seconds.

Although the Briton looked very competitive and comfortable in the closing stages of the 44-lap race on his hard Pirelli tyres, Piastri did not allow slipping the victory through his fingers.

Despite its dominant position both on track and in the championship standings, McLaren continues to bring upgraded parts to races on a regular basis.

The Woking-based outfit introduced a new low downforce rear wing at Spa-Francorchamps. The updated version improves overall efficiency across a similar drag range and is suitable for multiple circuits.

"Updated version of the low downforce rear wing assembly, improving overall efficiency across a similar drag range, suitable for multiple circuits," the team noted.

The revised rear wing assembly was not a Spa-specific configuration and it should also be used at other suitable circuits like Monza, Baku and Las Vegas.
