What does Hamilton expect from his second year at Ferrari?

Ferrari’s launch of its 2026 Formula One challenger on Friday marked the beginning of a radically new era for the Scuderia — and for Lewis Hamilton, who offered a candid reflection on the scale of the task ahead.
Speaking at the unveiling, the seven‑time world champion underlined both the technical upheaval of the new regulations and the collaborative spirit driving Ferrari’s preparations.
Hamilton did not shy away from describing the magnitude of the shift Formula One faces next year. “The 2026 season represents a huge challenge for everyone, probably the biggest regulation change I have experienced in my career,” he said, framing the new ruleset as a turning point not only for teams but for drivers as well.
With the sport moving to a fundamentally different aerodynamic and power‑unit philosophy, Hamilton emphasised the importance of unity and long‑term development. “When a new era begins everything revolves around development, growth as a team, and moving forward in the same direction,” he explained. His arrival in Maranello has coincided with Ferrari’s intensified focus on 2026, giving him a rare opportunity to shape a car from its earliest design stages.
That involvement has been a source of motivation. “As a driver, being involved from the very start in the development of such a different car has been a particularly fascinating challenge, working closely with the engineers to help define a clear direction for it,” Hamilton said.
Ferrari insiders have repeatedly highlighted how deeply he has integrated into the technical process, and his comments reflect that hands‑on approach.

Hamilton also pointed to the expanded responsibilities drivers will shoulder under the new hybrid regulations. “It will be an extremely important year from a technical perspective, with the driver playing a central role in energy management, understanding the new systems and contributing to the car’s development,” he noted.
With energy deployment becoming more complex and more decisive for lap time, driver input will be more critical than at any point in the hybrid era.
Despite the scale of the challenge, Hamilton’s message was one of collective determination — and of appreciation for the fans who have welcomed him to Ferrari. “It is a challenge we face together as a team, supported by the extraordinary passion of Ferrari’s tifosi, which means so much to all of us,” he said, acknowledging the emotional force behind the Scuderia’s ambitions.
