Alonso finished down in sixth and he admits Red Bull's RB9 was in a class of its own while he was struggling in his Ferrari.

Not catching fire is not really a design consideration, except when it's about fuel, where the fuel tanks are flexible volumes within the monocoque. It's quite obvious that the amount of gasoline is much more hazardous than an oil or water leak. Basically, a minor manufacturing issue on an oil radiator could cause the same issue as here when Sutil hit Webber.

That's a very big gap there in the diffuser. Look to the left of the wheel in the shadow of the brake duct element.
I can imagine the strakes also push the exhaust into the center of the diffuser.
For all we know they could be using coando in two planes. Coanda from the side pods, and coando on the inside strake to further curve the flow into that big gap we see there.

They started with this massive rake at Singapore and continued here, before that it wasnt this massive.

How do you define gimmicks/trickery?
There were few detail changes since mid season and the car emerges as a class of its own. We also see Sauber making a leap in performance while Force Indias slipping down in rankings.
I just don't really get what "plain" means in this context.

I doubt that that is giving the heat signature. It has been doing this in both singapore and korea, during both qualies and both races, from the start to the end. If you rub your t-tray all race long you are going to get an illegal car which has too much wear on its plank. It also could lead to boundary layer build up behind it due air unable to pass under the tray, stalling the floor.

Also notice the heat signature has this given shape, pattern. They have something intalled/integrating that is giving off heat.

Oil cooler - most of them run an oil/fluid cooler here, for COG purposes obviously.
