Chilton tops first testing day at Barcelona

F1 Test, Barcelona, Circuit de Catalunyaes

Max Chilton set the fastest time of the day at Barcelona where testing got off to a slow start due to rain for most of the morning. The afternoon however saw more useful conditions for the teams as the track dried out, making it a proper testing day at Circuit de Catalunya.

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton topped the morning as many were careful not to do damage to their cars in the tricky wet conditions. Following an early lunch break to get past the clouds, Max Chilton set best time 3 seconds faster than his qualifying effort at last weekend's Spanish Grand Prix at the same track.

Charles Pic in the Lotus E22 came close to that pace in the end, edging Hamilton by less than a tenth. Pic used the soft tyre on his best run whereas Chilton ran on the supersoft and Hamilton on the medium.

Raikkonen completed the least amount of laps today as an engine failure before noon hampered his progress. He will be back in the car tomorrow for further testing with the Ferrari F14 T.
