FP3: Piastri heads dominant one-two for McLaren in final practice

McLaren duo Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris dominanted the third and final practice at the Spanish Grand Prix, with Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc having ended up third. F1Technical’s senior writer Balazs Szabo report on FP3 from the Barcelona track.

Oscar Piastri put together a much cleaner lap to clock the fastest time of the weekend so far, once again demonstrating McLaren’s mighty pace with a 1m 12.387s, leaving his team-mate Lando Norris more than half a second adrift.

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc sounded a positive note after the opening day at Barcelona, and he was able to confirm his positive sentiments with a third place in final practice.

George Russell set the benchmark in the early stages of the one-hour session, but he ended up down in fourth place after everyone completed their final push lap on Pirelli's softs.

Max Verstappen made a good impression yesterday, but his best effort was only good enough for the fifth-quickest time behind Russell’s Mercedes.

At the chequered flag, Isack Hadjar continued his impressive pace with P6 ahead of Kimi Antonelli and crowd favourite Fernando Alonso, with Lewis Hamilton and Lawson's Racing Bull rounding out the top 10.
