MOTOGP: Marc Marquez set new record with dominant victory in Brno, Acosta secures first podium in 2025

Six-time MotoGP champion Marc Marquez took his first consecutive victory at Brno whilst Marco Bezzecchi and Pedro Acosta completed the three-manufacturer podium. F1Technical's senior writer Balazs Szabo reports on the Brno round.

Starting from the pole position, Francesco Bagnaia punched off the line well and got the holeshot, but he was unable to maintain the lead for long as his team-mate Marc Marquez passed him at Turn 3.

However, Marco Bezzecchi made two moves to go past both Marquez and Bagnaia to move into the lead. Meanwhile, Alex Marquez, who is second in the drivers' standings, made an ambitious move on Joan Mir at Turn 12, but he lost control of his Gresini Ducati and fell. The Spaniard then crashed into Mir's Honda and both riders were taken out.

Further up the order, Acosta managed to overtake Bagnaia, whilst Enea Bastianini and Raul Fernandez went past former MotoGP champion Fabio Quartararo.

On Lap 5, Bastianini’s charge continued as he passed his former team-mate Bagnaia. However, his day ended early as he crashed out after losing the front end of his KTM at Turn 3.

While Marc Marquez looked to be patient behind Bezzecchi, the Spaniard elected to make a move on Lap 8, taking over the lead from the Italian.

In the meantime, Acosta was able to stay with the leading duo, Bagnaia struggled to keep up with Marquez, Bezzecchi and Acosta, sitting 1.7s adrift of the podium fight.

Although Bezzecchi and Acosta posted a pair of strong lap times, Marc Marquez raised the benchmark on the following laps and his lead grew to 1.2s on Lap 12 of 21.

Bezzecchi was reluctant to give up his winning chanced and he was able to dip into the 1:53s for the first time, posting a 1:53.999, but on the same lap, Lap 14, Marquez found a 1:53.787. And on the following lap, Marquez went even quicker. A 1:53.691, coupled with a 1:54.085 from Bezzecchi, saw the lead climb to 1.9s.

With Marquez constantly posting times below the 1m54.0 mark, the attention turned to the rostrum fight. Bezzecchi and Acosta continued to look strong on worn tyres as well, but Bagnaia managed to find more speed in the dying stages of the Brno round.

The Italian was two seconds adrift of Acosta in the middle stages of the race, but he managed to close in on Bezzecchi and Acosta, and he was just within half a second of Acosta with two laps to go.

And on the last lap, Bagnaia was within attacking distance, but the two-time MotoGP champion was unable to make any progress. Marquez was 1.6s clear of Bezzecchi and controlling things at the front, with the latter safe from being pounced on from behind.

However, Marquez did not let the slip the victory through his fingers, and clinched his fifth consecutive win ahead of Bezzecchi and Acosta, whilst Bagnaia took the chequered flag in fourth place.

Fifth place went to Fernandez, who enjoyed his best weekend of the season, and that P5 is his equal best in MotoGP. Quartararo was less than a second behind the Trackhouse rider in P6, with the returning Martin coming home in a fabulous P7.

Fermin Aldeguer came out on top in a good fight between the rookie and Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing), while Maverick Viñales’ super-sub Pol Espargaro caps off a superb weekend in Brno by taking away a P10 over the line.

The results changed after Aldeguer was given the equivalent of a Long Lap penalty as a time penalty, putting him back down to P11. It meant that Binder took P8, Espargaro P9 and Jack Miller completed the top ten.
