Encouraging for tomorrow - Fisico

The Italian ING Renault F1 Team driver, Giancarlo Fisichella, is satisfied with his day’s work and talks about how he feels after the first day’s practice. The Roman is looking confident towards tomorrow's qualifying session.

You’re really the team leader now. Is that a heavy responsibility?

“It’s not a responsibility. It’s just important to do your best for the thousand people who are employed at the factory. The idea of working with Heikki and me motivates the team very much, and we want to achieve the best results possible. It’s not easy but we’re optimistic, and we’re determined to improve the car as well as its balance and grip to combine all the factors we need to go for victory.”

Today you had a good second practice session...

“I didn’t do any testing last week. I hadn’t raced at Sepang since last year, so I had to learn the circuit again; then the balance was good this afternoon. We put on new tyres and did some other things on the car and it worked well. My feeling was better too and the final result is very encouraging for tomorrow.”

These past two years Renault has been in scintillating form in Malaysia. What are your ambitions for the 2007 race?

“I’ve got great memories of last year. The weekend was a brilliant one for me. I started from pole and won the race. The car was fantastic and the grand prix was very tough physically. I don’t think the car is quite as competitive this year but anything can happen. Our aim is to score the maximum number of points and to get onto the rostrum. It’s important to have the right strategy and not to make mistakes in the race itself.”
