Deadline for appeal approaches

The deadline for McLaren to appeal the decision of the WMSC in the espionage case is approaching. McLaren has until Friday 21 September to launch an appeal. This was announced by the FIA in an official statement.

It is likely that Mclaren will not appeal the decision in order to leave the matter behind them and because the team is risking an even harder penalty if they do launch an appeal. Ron Dennis said: "If we don't appeal, we do so because we want to put the case behind us. Hopefully the other teams understand that we do so in the best interest of the sport."

A statement of the FIA said: "The FIA has received a number of enquiries from the international press regarding the deadline for any appeal by Vodafone McLaren Mercedes against the decision of the World Motor Sport Council hearing of Thursday, September 13th.

After conferring with the Secretariat of the International Court of Appeal the FIA understands that the deadline for such an appeal is 1700 hrs (CET) on Friday, September 21st."
