Singapore tests lighting system for first night race

This weekend the organisers of the Singapore Grand Prix have demonstrated the lighting system that will be used for the first ever night race. The Singapore GP is scheduled for 28 September on a new street circuit.

Sixteen light projectors have been temporarily set up along a 64-metre stretch of the capital's St Andrew's Road.

The lights have a 3000 lux illumination rating, compared to around 100 lux for Singapore's standard street lights, and the average 50,000 lux of normal sunlight.

Singapore's Senior Minister of State for Trade and Industry S. Iswaran was impressed with the system: "It seems pretty bright to me. Under these conditions I don't think visibility will be a problem for the drivers."

The lights will remain in place until the end of next week, being switched on from 7pm every night.
