i dont think it would hurt the engine but if will most certainly put it under sub optimum conditions. You wouldnt be able to tune an exhaust to give good back pressure at theres a hole in the system. also at certain RPM there could be such a volume to air being sucked in that either it cant get out the back along with the exhaust gases and causes the engine to "choke" as such. It could be a reason why the ferrari sounded so different on the overrun in turkey practice, if they were using it that is.bot6 wrote:Looks like some kind of pump. Either a turbine (which would be completely and utterly illegal, movable aero and all) or more likely just using the speed of the exhaust flow to pump in even more air into the exhaust. And into the sidepods.
Indeed, it's a very very smart idea. But I have a feeling it's going to get outlawed soon... If it doesn't destroy the engine first.

very interesting. perhaps the high flow exhaust gasses would suck some of the "cooler" engine bay air for a slight reduction of exhaust tube temperature. There's been a few teams that have been struggling with the temps in this EBD configuration. Perhaps this is is just the amount of cooling needed.n smikle wrote:This is either an ejector, or a shockwave suppressor, even a silencer!

an "EBEBAE"- exhaust blown engine bay air extractor!Formula None wrote:
Wonder if it could be made efficient enough to move ALL radiator exhaust through. Huge airflow through the pipes as result. All hot air dumped out through the exhaust pipes.
Alternately, why not extend the bodywork closer to the EBD exit, and truncate the exhaust just inside of said bodywork, and create your venturi that way. All exhaust & radiator exit flow would be mixed and dumped approximately at the EBD entrance area.
