Ferrari 150° Italia

Why do I get the feeling that the special exhaust collector pictured, features a one way valve.

We last saw this add-on to the exhaust system just before Catalunya when the previous ban was supposed to be enforced. Now we see a race ebfore the final ban comes into force.

I guess this would be a valve that maintained back pressure when the exhaust was blowing, but on the over-run the valve would open to allow ambient air to pass down along the secondary pipe to act like a "cold blown" engine mapping. Thus creating a slightly more consistent exhaust gas flow, for less sensitive aero.

How about an ignition point for burning off the unspent fuel left in the collector just like the after burner on a jet fighter.

by looking at the photo it seems Ferrari have moved their exhausts inboard and no longer targeting the same region as the red bull

interesting point ,scarbs...the flow will starve off surely less severe and will be augmented by the low pressure in the wake of the car.the air sucked through the one way valve will still be quite hot ..maybe Ferrari will develop this a bit further ..but then is this not inferring with the one exhaust opeening rule? It´s only open when the throttle is closed, sure ..and it´s an inlet not an exit ...but I think the rules speak about exhaust openings...and of course you are not allowed to have moving parts in the exhaust?

The opposite of your opposite really. IF you look in the plan view of the RedBull, the exhaust come from inboard to outboard. The previous Ferrari exhaust was all outboard, so with that said, Ferrari are making the exhaust even more like RedBull's.
