Hamilton only needs 60 points to secure the championship if Leclerc or Max were to win all the remaining races.
If Hamilton were to win two more races it is game over for everybody else bar Bottass.

Before Charles boxed, Lewis said: “Let’s undercut him”

Afterall this would have been the right strategy. Was he genuine, or just luring Charles into an early stop?

I was screaming at Mercedes' twitter, I went nuts seeing that they've missed the opportunity.

Also I think they could have tried splitting the strategy and bit either Bottas or Hamilton during the 1st SC.

I don't know what their strategy team was doing, but for sure I know they weren't watching this race. They were in coma or Idk where the fok.

Reality : Mercedes isnt the force they used to be. Ferrari is now strong on every track. Media & Fans mocked the Scuderia for being only competitive on the fast tracks. Now the latest upgrades and relentless development work by Pascal Wehrlein & Brendon Hartley in the Simulator have brought a wind of change to the hierarchy of F1.

Well done Vettel! Helped by the strategy for sure, but he was in the position that allowed him that.
In a position that allowed it. are you saying he was doing well to hang on in 3rd? While Charles was being told to drive to a delta about 13 seconds a lap off qualy pace.
He was in that position precisely because Leclerc dictated the pace of everyone, thus also adding to the risk that this could happen.

A strategy that was necessary to ensure the best possible result for Ferrari, which they achieved.
I do not think there is so much behind.
The pitstops were actually triggered by the move of Hulkenberg on Grosjean in lap 19 that cost 2 sec on the leaders and the overtake in lap 20 that again cost a bit of time. Before that move Grosjean was in the window of Hamilton. With it, Vettel needed to pit as it was clear that Vestappen will use the chance. I think Ferrari was at this point simply lucky that Hamilton did not pit and underestimated the undercut strongly.

return of the Dark Prince!

And to all of you that believe Ferrari intentionally screwed Leclerc, well, you don't have a clue about tactics...
What Ferrari should have done is pit vettel first, then have charles drive a slow lap to guarantee Vettel passing Hamilton and Leclerc, then later in the race switch Vettel and Leclerc back. Makes a 1-2 and the deserving driver wins the race.
Actually you might be right. I could argue that Charles deliverd one fantastic lap in Q3 and Seb deliverd the other when he undercut both Lewis and Charles.

I really hope that, if there was a WDC battle, Ferrari would "give" the win to the contender.
This way, what ever you do in the end, you will have one disappointed driver, so it's unnecessary risk to switch them in the end.
And also, Seb needed this much more than Charles did.

Reality: Merc haven't updated their car since Germany.

Good job by Ferrari for their strong and ruthless execution all weekend.

They came back very strong after the summer break. So did Merc for their double podiums at both Spa and Monza. Aside from Germany and Austria, this was Merc's worst race of the year (and arguably the worst overall weekend performance).

Hamilton could see what was going on better than the pit wall. Sometimes, you can have too much information it seems.

Ferrari prove to be unstoppable now, Leclerc wins all the races, Loses the title by 5 points.
Ferrari have two drivers on similar points, each fighting for wins. Unless they say "you will not fight" to one of them.

Ok- so the real question basically is, what do the proffesional forum posters from F1technical think of the out come of this race?

What went ‘wrong’ and what could you’ve done better?

I liked it when Hamilton told his engineer- after Leclerc’s pitstop, that his tyres were still ok.. and his engineer respondent that Vettel was on mediums and that he needed to stop a 2nd time.

Did anybody noticed that?

Mercedes screwed up tire warm up in q3, and they screwed up strategy-wise during the race. In my opinion Mercedes was faster race pace-wise, but not nearly enough to get past on this circuit.

Ferrari has nothing to FEAR. Monza & Spa are quicker tracks than Suzuka and Ferrari has Outqualified and Outraced Mercedes. Another fact : Bottas is far inferior to both Vettel & Leclerc. Hamilton has his hands full with two drivers who dispose of a car better than his.

Ferrari barely won on the two tracks that suited its car best and now on a track that together with Monaco is the anomaly on the calendar and you think they are now the team to beat hands down?
Not for nothing, Rosberg's Championship is the only thing that lends credibility to Hamilton's recent success. Otherwise, he'd just be the guy who's had the best car. — bhall II
