Schumi anxious to get back on track

Michael has just ended a week's holiday - a honeymoon, as he called it Coming after the GP of Malaysia, it is one of the few periods that he has spent with Corinna in the season. It is the traditional week off that the couple has maintained ahead of the Australian GP and they enjoyed the time off very much.

"We finally we had some time alone", declared Michael Schumacher. "The first two races are held one after the other and so there is very little time to spend together. So, this week was good for me". As a fitting conclusion to the week, Michael and Corinna took part in the closing ceremony to the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne. "A marvellous evening and a great spectacle". Before the race weekend begins, they will probably spend two or three more days in another city.

However, Michael would not be Michael if he had spent the whole week doing nothing.

Naturally, he did his daily training to prepare for the weekend's race. "The important thing is that there will be no problems adapting to the climate and time change this time round. In fact, we have adapted gradually, first in Bahrain, then Malaysia and now in Australia", explained the seven-time world champion with a smile. "So, we will go into the next round in fine form and, to be totally honest, I cannot wait. Although the Malaysian race did not go as we would have liked, the start of the season, on the whole, has been very pleasing. I would like to do well in Melbourne. I have always liked this race and things have always gone well for us. I am convinced that the result will be better than last year. We will try to pick up from the good form shown in the first race of the season and, I think, it is realistic to say that we can obtain a result midway between that of Bahrain and that in Malaysia. Obviously, we will be doing all we can to go as far as possible".

As ever, the Australian weekend begins with sponsor engagements. On Wednesday, Michael will participate in Shell and Vodafone events before heading to the Albert Park track on Thursday. Friday will be the first time he sits in his Ferrari again. "I am anxious to get going", concluded Michael. "Maybe this is because being on holiday means detaching completely and brings withdrawal symptoms. Now I want to get back to the fight".
